About Yekaterinburg
In spring 1723 under the decree of the Emperor Peter the Great on Iset’ river it was a launch of development one of the largest metal plant in Russia. Ekaterinburg was erected as the capital of mining area stretched in enormous territory on both sides of the Ural ridge, locating at the same time in two parts of the world — Europe and Asia. During the first years after opening the Yekaterinburg Metal Plant was the leading plant according to its technology and equipment all over the World.
Yekaterinburg was settled as a fortress on Iset’ river in 1723. And it was named after the Empress Katherine the First. In Soviet times it was renamed to Sverdlovsk and the original name of the city was returned back only in 1991. There are a few dozens of libraries, more than 50 museums, several theaters, Sverdlov Film Studio, Zoo and Circus.
